Follow the March for life (18 mins. 32 sec.) with the Dominican Friars, it was shot on the ground at the March from inside the moving crowd. It includes the personal testimony of many Dominican Friars, Sisters, CFR’s, Renewal Sisters, pastors, campus ministers, college students, and youth.

For example, hear from Br. Dominic Legge, OP about how the
March affects people who work inside the Supreme Court.

In this video (12 mins.) Fr. Juan-Diego tells us about his ministries as a canon lawyer, retreat work, Youth 2000, the Third Order and his experiences of preaching and religious life.

Br. Pius Pietrzyk gave his first homily as a deacon on the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord at the Dominican House of Studies, Washington DC:

The writer Flannery O’Connor had a great ability to present the human condition and the life of grace in stark and powerful ways. She presents with sometimes alarming realism the struggle of our own fallen humanity. In her short story “The River” she presents with the same iron punch the themes of baptism. The story revolves around 4-year old Harry. Harry lives with rather Epicurean parents, who would rather party late into the night than tend to his upbringing. For Harry, the name of “Jesus” was just another exclamation like “oh!” or “dang it!”. In the story, Harry is taken by his babysitter, a devout old black woman, to a healin’ preacher. There, Harry is baptized in the river. After which, he tells his unbelieving mother “I’m not the same now” “I count”. Harry yearns for the promise of the preacher, to be free from suffering, and to come into the Kingdom of God. So, early the next day,

Thesis: We, too, are caught up in a series of offerings not perfectly received or given in our attempts to redeem the redemption.

1. An embarrassment of riches and paradoxes.

We face today an embarrassment of riches. Five great mysteries grace our Gospel: the presentation of Christ, the would-be sacrifices, a light that shines brightly into the future, the death of the Old covenant and the birth of the New, and the suffering of sacrificed doves and piercing swords.

We also face the embarrassment of paradoxes.
– The Redeemer of the Chosen People and the peoples yet to be chosen is presented in the Temple, whose rite is designed to redeem him. Jesus is redeemed as the first-born under the Law, but He has come to redeem us from the Law.
– The Mother who hands him over to Simeon is thought to be defiled rather than sanctified by his birth. The turtledoves offer their lives to redeem the woman from impurity, but she is the Immaculate Conception who has already been redeemed.

Providence College

Terence Sweeney is a recent graduate (‘06) of Providence College. Just before graduating he wrote an article for “The Cowl” — the student mewspaper at PC. His article shows what a huge difference PC and the Dominicans there made in his life. Since graduating, Terence has since applied to become a Dominican of the Eastern Province and has been accepted.

Here begins his article entitled My Divine Comedy at Providence College

“In the middle of the journey of our life / I found myself in a dark wilderness / for I had wandered from the straight and true.” With these words, Dante began his Divine Comedy and looking back on it now I realize that when I entered Providence College I too had wandered from the straight and true. I rarely find it valuable or wise to write about oneself on the pages of the Commentary section but I feel the need in my final article to explain why I so often refer to Providence College as my beloved, why Providence College is my Beatrice. The answer is this: as Beatrice’s prayers lead to Dante’s salvation, Providence College’s education saved me when I was lost in a wilderness.
